Creative Animation

Animation is, put very simply, making things move.  When it comes to making it move on screen, there are many techniques used to achieve a variety of situations. At BNL Productions we use these techniques to bring your film and media to life, creating smooth and rich content to enhance your project.  Animation can be simply broken down into the following three main areas.

Stop Motion

Without stop motion animation, Wallace would be a lifeless clay model and Gromit  would be little more than a paperweight.  The painstaking process of giving such characters the personality that we see is all down to stop motion animation. Taking individual shots of each frame and then making minuscule alterations to  the position of the models for the next shot is a task for those with an eye for detail, but can make the most lifeless object leap off the table and become a powerful tool for getting a message across. With a little imagination, and the creativity and skills of our animators, the stapler on your desk, or the lump of clay in our workshop could about to engage your audience in a way that no person ever could.

Computer Animation

To bring an imagined scene to life, the easiest technique is to use computer animation. Using a computer to create a scene, and the characters within it, requires a great deal of experience, creativity and skill, but means that whatever you can imagine can be made a “reality” without having the costs and time constraints associated with making everything in real life. The animation can be just a few characters or the entire scene.  When you look at many Pixar films like “Toy Story”, everything that you see has been made on a computer.  It doesn’t always have to be as elaborate as Buzz Lightyear attempting to fly to have a stunning effect. 2D and 3D animations can be integrated to fit the requirements for your film.  BNL Productions have a team of computer animators that can make your imagination appear on screen, before your very eyes.

Compositing

When making a film, location can often be vital. Without the necessary backgrounds, or when it is difficult to have important items or people together at the same time, BNL Productions can make it seem as though everything and everyone was on location, even if they were hundreds of miles apart. By taking footage of a missing component and digitally inserting it into the film, it will seem as though it was there all along. This is a technique used in many period films where a castle is seamlessly placed in the background to add a sense of reality to a scene. Hogwarts School during a Quidditch game might have seemed real, but much of it was only added after Harry Potter and his Gryffindor team-mates had long since gone for their after match showers.
