Training to Be Part of the People’s Park
Under the Community Engagement strategy of the SPACE project, we were tasked with recruiting a group of volunteers that would become a junior production crew on the run up to, and during, Portadown’s Got Talent 2015. We work with young people a lot, training them up in all sorts of media, from social networking, to photography, filming and animation. Each new group we work with brings fresh ideas and a real injection of energy to a project. This one was certainly no different!
We designed a flyer for social media to recruit this group and we were delighted with the response. There were 11 volunteers in totally that went through training session in health and safety, event management, child protection, stewarding and camera operation. Splitting into three sub-groups, they each took on a role within ‘Hospitality’, ‘Side of Stage,’ or ‘Media.’ These roles were put into place throughout the PGT2015 process, from auditions to the final event on 12th June. All of the young people did an absolutely fantastic job, and produced some great work; we’ve been delighted to subsequently take a lot of them into our office for work experience and build up our working relationship with them.
The Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council were so pleased with the work of these volunteers that they wanted to recognise them at a Celebration event earlier this week. We designed up some beautifully framed Certificates and hosted a pizza party and cinema night. We had as much fun as them!!
